I’m Lara Heintz- an award winning documentary producer, director, and journalist based in Brooklyn by way of Ohio and Colombia.

I have ten years of experience producing, directing, and developing longform documentary and news across digital platforms and TV broadcast, and am drawn to making immersive character driven films that explore the complicated identities, movements, and powers that shape our world.

My work has appeared on VICE News, VICE, Motherboard, CNET, Amazon Prime, and HBO, and has covered immigration, fringe communities, science, substance use, and criminal justice. In 2021, I was a producer on the Peabody-Award winning series “Transnational”. My work has also appeared on the Emmy Award winning series Vice News Tonight been screened at the Tribeca and Sundance Film Festivals.

I hold a dual bachelors degree in Political Science and French from the Ohio State University, and a Masters Degree from the New School in Media Theory. Prior to Vice, I worked on “Thought Crimes”, a feature length documentary that aired on HBO, directed by Erin Lee Carr. Most recently I was a development producer on “We Are Ayenda”, a critically acclaimed branded documentary about the Afghan Youth National Football Team that screened at Sundance.
